A quick reminder that our next Club meeting is this Thursday, May 24, at our new location in New Westminster. I hope to see you there!
Last Friday four of us demonstrated at Crafted Vancouver’s “Meet The Makers” event, with other craftsmen from all over the world. (photo in the Gallery). This coming Sunday, May 27th, will see us demonstrating again, this time at the “Bizarre Bazaar” event at Hycroft.
Great meeting yesterday! A good turnout, and one new member! Welcome, Maura.
Our new tea experience is filling out nicely – the teapot & kettle that were donated last month have now been joined by a lovely serving tray and a couple of serving dishes. The Church kitchen provides mugs, spoons, and sugar, but we obviously cannot store milk or cream on the premises between meetings. If you would like milk/cream with your tea, please bring it with you.
At the meeting yesterday we began planning for a tea, tentatively set for September 22nd. We intend this as a fundraiser, and we will have a lace display and demonstrations as well as the tea. Further ideas will be explored at our next meeting on May 24th. Hope to see you then!
Several of us are back from the Getaway in Saanich, put on by the Victoria Lace Club. It was a fine Getaway in a wonderful, spacious venue, and we’re all fired up for lacemaking efforts over the next year, when the Denman & District club will host in Comox/Courtenay.
Our next lace club meeting is April 26th, but we’re already looking forward to a busy month in May.
We will demonstrate lace at two events, Crafted Vancouver’s “Meet the Makers” event at the Heritage Hall on Friday, May 18th, and at S.M.O.C.’s “Bizarre Bazaar” at Hycroft, on Sunday, May 27th. Details of both events are on our Demonstrations page.
Last Thursday we met at the Club’s new meetingplace, to finish unpacking, and to pick up some items that have been donated to us, that we will sell at the Victoria Getaway a little over a week from now. It was so nice having tea and cookies! Many thanks to Irene for bringing them.
I have also updated a couple of the pages on this website – I added the OIDFA Congress in Zaandam to the “Events in 2018” panel, and I have updated the list of upcoming meetings and demonstrations. If you think I’ve missed any planned demonstrations, please let me know, with the date, time, and location, so that I can include it on our list.
Looking forward to seeing my lacemaking friends at the Getaway!
Happy Easter! I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday this weekend. Our Moving Day on March 22nd went well, but we used up our 3 hours with packing and moving, and didn’t have time for the fun stuff – unpacking, putting stuff on our new shelves and getting organized for lots of future lacemaking.
We are going to meet this coming Thursday, April 5th, to get all of that done. This is our first time in the new location, and we are looking forward to using our spacious meeting room and having tea available. It is also our last meeting before the Victoria club’s Lace Getaway, which will take place in only two weeks! I’m hoping to see many of my lacemaking friends over on the Island.
Our next regular meeting will be on April 26th.
A great opportunity to help people discover lacemaking! The Langley Arts Council will have a show, “Fibre and Lace”, this Fall. Anyone can enter their own lace piece, up to 16″ x 20″, so if you feel the fire of creativity, please click on the link under “Events in 2018”, on the right-hand panel.
We have found a new meeting place!
We will be meeting in the downstairs meeting room of the First Free Methodist Community Church at 320 – 8th Street in New Westminster. Further details are on our “About Us” page, here.
As we are the Vancouver Lace Club, we would have preferred to have stayed in Vancouver, but this new location ticks almost all our boxes! No stairs, plenty of room, parking close by, natural light, storage facilities – even the ability to make tea if we like! Do drop in to see us! Our next meeting will be on March 22nd. That “meeting” is actually our moving day, so we will meet at the Hastings Community Centre to pack up and then bring our packed boxes over to the new location. Our first full meeting in the new location will be April 26th. I hope to see you there!
